Thermogenic fat-burning: what is known
No study of Slim Metrix exists. Cayenne, the heat ingredient, is sixth in the blend; capsaicin's thermogenic effect is small, and 4 mg a day did not change weight in a 12-week trial.
Label literacy
Thermogenic means producing heat. On a supplement it is a marketing word for ingredients said to nudge calorie burning, usually caffeine, green tea or hot pepper. Studies find the effect is small: capsaicin did not change body weight in a 12-week trial (NIH ODS, Weight-loss supplements). Slim Metrix is sold as "thermogenic," but its label prints no caffeine or capsaicin amount.

The word
Thermogenic means "heat-making." Your body makes heat all day as it turns food into energy. Some compounds can raise that heat output a little for a short time.
On a supplement bottle or ad, "thermogenic" is not a regulated term. It has no legal definition and no set dose. It usually signals one or more of three ingredients: caffeine, green tea catechins or capsaicin, the compound that makes hot peppers hot.
FDA does not approve supplements or their claims before they are sold (FDA, Supplement Q&A), so the word is the seller's choice.
The research
A little, at best. The weight effects in trials are small.
| Ingredient | What studies found | In Slim Metrix |
|---|---|---|
| Capsaicin (hot pepper) | About 74 fewer calories eaten per meal, but 4 mg a day for 12 weeks did not change body weight | Cayenne, 6th of 8 in the blend, at most 46 mg; capsaicin amount not printed |
| Green tea catechins | About 0.95 kg more loss overall, none in non-Japanese studies; catechins alone had no effect | Green tea extract, 2nd of 8, at most 138 mg |
| Catechins plus caffeine | 1.38 kg more than caffeine alone | Caffeine amount not published |
MSKCC sums up capsaicin the same way: its thermogenic and appetite effects have been determined to be small, and the effect varies from person to person (MSKCC, Cayenne).
Reading the label
H.U. stands for heat units, a measure of how hot a pepper powder tastes. It is a heat rating, not an amount of capsaicin.
Slim Metrix lists "Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) Fruit 40,000 H.U." sixth in its 276 mg blend. By its place in the list, cayenne can weigh at most 46 mg. The label does not say how much capsaicin that holds, so you cannot compare it with the 4 mg a day used in research (NIH ODS, Weight-loss supplements).
A heat rating, a percentage or a ratio tells you about the strength of a raw material. Only a weight in mg tells you the dose.
Slim Metrix
The sales page says so. The label makes no thermogenic claim. Here is where the two differ.
Title: "Thermogenic Fat-Burning Capsules"
No caffeine or capsaicin amount is printed. Cayenne is 6th of 8 in the blend. (MSKCC, Cayenne)
"Inside" graphic: six ingredients
Ten in all: zinc, chromium and an 8-ingredient blend led by alpha-lipoic acid. (FDA, Labeling guide ch. IV)
Berberine (97%) as a headline ingredient
4th in a 276 mg blend: at most about 69 mg per capsule. (NCCIH, Berberine and weight loss)
Chromium at "41.67%" of the Daily Value
50 mcg is about 143% of today's 35 mcg Daily Value. (NIH ODS, Chromium)
"Clinically studied ingredients"
No study of this formula. Ingredient studies used far larger doses. (FTC, Health Products Guidance)

There is no cinnamon on the label. (Slim Metrix sales page)
The sales page and the brand graphics were checked on October 12, 2026. Where they and the Supplement Facts panel disagree, go by the label on the bottle you receive.
The sales page's title is "SlimMetrix® Thermogenic Fat-Burning Capsules" and it lists a "Metabolic Boost" among its claims (Slim Metrix sales page). The bottle's front reads only SLIM METRIX, DIETARY SUPPLEMENT and 30 CAPSULES. See the full comparison on label vs sales page.

No study of Slim Metrix exists. Cayenne, the heat ingredient, is sixth in the blend; capsaicin's thermogenic effect is small, and 4 mg a day did not change weight in a 12-week trial.

Normal means fasting glucose of 99 mg/dL or lower. Berberine's glucose results come from people with type 2 diabetes taking 0.9-1.5 g a day; here it is at most about 69 mg.

Chromium's craving data come from one preliminary study. Capsaicin trimmed about 74 calories a meal in studies but did not change body weight.

The ingredients were studied at far higher doses than one capsule can hold. No lab, certifier or competing brand is named.

Claims are quoted from the sales page and the brand graphics. Under FTC guidance, health claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence, generally human trials of the same dose and formula. (FTC, Health Products Guidance)
Under FTC guidance, a health claim needs human trials that match the product's dose and formula (FTC, Health Products Guidance). No such trial of Slim Metrix has been published. The claims and evidence page goes through each one.

Order nowStimulants
Most do, because caffeine is the best-known thermogenic. Slim Metrix does not list caffeine as an ingredient, but green tea extract naturally contains some, and the label prints no amount (NCCIH, Green tea).
If you are sensitive to caffeine or pregnant, that missing number matters. Count your coffee, tea and energy drinks too.
Buyer tips
If the caffeine or capsaicin amount is missing, there is no way to match the product to any study.
The FTC says loss without diet or exercise, or results for everyone, cannot be true (FTC, Gut Check).
FDA has found weight products tainted with prescription drugs, and many fat burners are untested for safety (NCCIH, Weight control).
The brand's lifestyle image surrounds the bottle with fruit, tea leaves and green coffee beans. Read the Supplement Facts panel, not the pictures.

Bottom line
No. Treat the word as a sales label and read the panel instead. A small rise in heat output does not add up to meaningful weight loss on its own (MSKCC, Cayenne).
Steady habits and about 150 minutes of activity a week do more (CDC, Adult activity). The cayenne, ginseng and banaba profile covers the heat ingredient.
FAQ
Not much. Capsaicin, green tea and caffeine each raise heat output or trim intake a little, but the weight effects in trials are small, often around 1 kg or less (NIH ODS, Weight-loss supplements). NCCIH notes many products sold as fat burners have not been tested for safety (NCCIH, Weight control).
Not always. Caffeine is both a stimulant and a thermogenic. Capsaicin and green tea catechins are thermogenic ingredients without being classic stimulants, though green tea extract also carries some caffeine. Check the label for a caffeine amount; Slim Metrix prints none.
Only slightly, and briefly. MSKCC says capsaicin's thermogenic and appetite effects have been found to be small (MSKCC, Cayenne). A 12-week trial of 4 mg of capsaicin a day did not change body weight, though it can cause stomach upset (NIH ODS, Weight-loss supplements).
It is the seller's description, not a label claim. The sales page title calls the product thermogenic and fat-burning (Slim Metrix sales page), yet the Supplement Facts panel prints no caffeine or capsaicin amount, and cayenne is sixth of eight ingredients in the blend.
It depends on the formula and the person. Common issues are stomach upset, sweating, raised blood pressure and, with green tea extract, rare liver injury (MSKCC, Cayenne) (LiverTox, Green tea). People with heart conditions or high blood pressure should talk to a doctor before using any heat-based product.
No supplement has been shown to target belly fat. Waist size falls when total body fat falls, which comes from eating fewer calories than you burn and staying active. CDC suggests aiming for about 1 to 2 pounds a week (CDC, Losing weight).
